An Evening with the Coe College Symphony Orchestra and the Music of William Grant Still

November 29, 2018 @ 7:30 pm - 8:30 pm

- Free

Join us for an evening with the Coe College Symphony Orchestra for a performance of William Grant Still’s Danzas de Panama. Each movement is a “classicized” version of an authentic Panamanian folk dance, transcribed and brought to the US by ethnomusicologist Elizabeth Waldo in the first half of the 19th century. The performance will include a brief history of each dance. The Coe College Symphony Orchestra is directed by Michelle Perrin Blair, D.M.A., Assistant Professor of Music, Director of Orchestras, Coe College.

William Grant Still was a prolific composer and the first African American to conduct a professional symphony orchestra in the United States.
