Join the AAMI Museum Educator Sydney O’Hare at the Iowa City Public Library for teen programming related to the AAMI’s latest exhibit, Suspended: Systemic Oppression in our Schools. This exhibit examines the role public schools play in funneling students into the prison system. Elements of the criminal justice system have entered public schools around the country, resulting in zero tolerance policies and student policing that disproportionately impact children of color.
Sydney will discuss the exhibit and the historical events leading up to its content. We’ll create art, recommend books titles around the subject and snacks will be provided.
