AAMI Showing: Pushout: The Criminalization of Black Girls in Schools

March 23, 2023 @ 5:00 pm

Join the AAMI for a free screening of “Pushout: The Criminalization of Black Girls in Schools” at the Cedar Rapids Public Library. A discussion moderated by Evette Creighton will follow. Doors open at 5pm. Film starts at 5:15pm.
“Inspired by the groundbreaking book of the same name by Monique W. Morris, Ed.D, PUSHOUT: THE CRIMINALIZATION OF BLACK GIRLS IN SCHOOLS takes a deep dive into the lives of Black girls and the practices, cultural beliefs and policies that disrupt one of the most important factors in their lives – education. Alarmingly, African American girls are the fastest-growing population in the juvenile justice system and the only group of girls to disproportionately experience criminalization at every education level.”
Evette Creighton is a senior HR leader of Talent Strategies, Inclusion and Diversity at Transamerica. Evette’s passion and commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion extends into her community. She is a member of the Women Lead Change Board of Directors and also serves on the EPIC advisory committee. Evette represents Transamerica on the America Council of Life Insurers’ (ACLI) Diversity Equity and Inclusion Forum. In addition, she is a Pastor at New City Church Cedar Rapids. Evette has a BA in psychology and a Masters in Industrial-Organizational Psychology both from the University of Northern Iowa. She lives in Cedar Rapids, Iowa with her husband and two daughters. She enjoys spending quality time with her family, serving her community, and watching her girls participate in extracurricular activities.
