Approximately 40% of Buxton's residents were white. The majority were immigrants or first generation Americans. Most commonly, they were of Swedish and Slovakian descent. From all reports, the community was generally free of racism however, there does not appear to have been much socialization between races. Most social occasions were generally held separately.
